Underground Utilities – Operators & Field Technicians

This position performs a variety of tasks involving physical labor at construction sites. This position will also assist other craft workers as necessary.

Responsibilities:

  • Clean and prepare construction site to eliminate possible hazards.
  • Dig ditches or trenches, backfill excavations, or spotting utilities
  • Lay conduit, fiber optic cable, coax cable, and other underground utilities.
  • Properly operate hand and power tools, vibratory compactors, small hoist, and basic construction equipment.
  • Perform safety inspections of work areas.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • 1-2 year of drilling experience preferred
  • Fusion Welding HDPE pipe experience a plus
  • Ability to identify and correct unsafe conditions
  • Capable of working at a sustained pace and produce quality work
  • Must be accountable for conduct and have excellent attendance
  • Ability to have a flexible work schedule, including working overtime and ability to work out of town as needed
  • CDL license required for certain positions

Work is performed outside in all types of environmental conditions. This position performs strenuous physical activity, for long periods, under varying and adverse field conditions. This position must be able to lift and/or carry up to 75 lbs., stand, walk on uneven surfaces, manually manipulate, grasp, reach out and above shoulder, climb, kneel, bend, twist, and push/pull.

Description

CFS is Hiring an experienced Fiber Splicer/Technician to join our Fiber Team. The ideal candidate will have 3 + years of experience in fusion splicing fiber optic cable, trouble shooting, splice audit verifications, fiber installation and termination experience, and OTDR and power meter testing. Knowledge of Hub sites and hub components. Knowledge of HFC networks installation and troubleshooting. Coax splicing and powering is a plus but not required.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Splice various fiber optic cable types and sizes, including single mode, multimode, stranded, and ribbon.
  2. Analyze, troubleshoot outages and technical issues.
  3. Review, interpret, and work with various maps, drawings, blueprints, splice sheets and testing documents.
  4. Build and prep various types of enclosures, trays, and splice fiber optic cable.
  5. Perform daily tests, checks, and maintenance of splicing and testing equipment.
  6. Complete all necessary documentation for jobs and or projects to include splice audits, redlines, and as-builts.
  7. Perform optical continuity and conformance testing.
  8. Ensures all work is done according to quality standards.

Job Qualifications

  • Must possess a minimum of three years of experience in fiber optic splicing and testing.
  • Experience using various fusion splicing and optical testing equipment.
  • Must know the universal communications color codes.
  • Ability to work with others and work independently.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces.
  • Must possess a current driver license, clean driving history, and pass drug screen to operate company vehicles.
  • Must be able to travel.
